About our Early Learning Centre
Toorak’s Early Learning Centre provides Kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs (3-5 days) to three and five year old children. Our bespoke curriculum, inspired by the Reggio Emilia practices and principles, supports our young children as they start their educational journey setting them up for a lifetime of learning.  Recognising the innate curiosity and potential in every child, we encourage each child to be strong and capable as they seek to understand the world and their place in it.

The Toorak Early Learning program is complemented by specialist classes in Creative Arts, STEM, Health & Wellbeing, Language & Cultural Appreciation and Performing Arts. These classes are run each week and taught by specialist Teachers.

Our Early Learning Centre has achieved an “Exceeding” rating across all 7 quality areas of the National Quality Standard Assessment. 
Under the leadership of Dianna McKellar, Head of ELC and Melissa Schoorman, Head of Wardle House, Deputy Principal, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a high performing team within a beautiful school community.

Role and Responsibilities:
As an Early Learning teacher at Toorak College, you will:

  • Develop and implement an outstanding Early Childhood education program based on the practices and principles of Reggio Emilia.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that inspires and supports students 
  • Develop a program that aligns with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and Toorak’s teaching and learning framework which adapts to individual children’s needs.
  • Ensure the individualised academic and pastoral development of all children to help them reach their full potential as a learner and an individual;
  • Collaborate with ELC and Junior School staff to integrate a program that encompasses broader school programs.
This is a part-time, fixed term position. Days of work in 2026 will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 
  
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • VIT Registration in Early Childhood Teaching.
  • A relentless commitment to excellence in education and a proven capacity for innovative, flexible and research-based teaching practice;
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and a desire to continually improve teaching practice.
  • A highly collaborative approach
  • Outstanding  communication skills and an ability to connect with students, parents and staff
  • Awareness of the regulations associated with the early education and care industry
