About the Role:
The Head of Rowing will be responsible for the strategic leadership, coaching, and day-to-day management of our Senior School rowing program. This is an exciting opportunity to guide a passionate team of student-athletes and coaches and foster a culture of commitment, sportsmanship, and achievement. The Head of Rowing is responsible for all aspects of the Toorak College Rowing Program, They will work closely with the Director of School Operations, Head of Sport, Rowing Staff and Students.
  
This part-time role requires a highly skilled, reliable and motivated person with availability to work outside of school hours and weekends for rowing camps, regattas and training sessions. Hours of duty for this position will vary based upon the Rowing season. A full-time position (as a teacher with a Head of Rowing Position of Responsibility) will be considered for a suitably qualified candidate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and growth of the School's Rowing programme, including leading and mentoring student athletes in Years 7-12.
  • Lead a team of coaches to deliver an engaging on-water and off-water training sessions ensuring high-quality coaching practices.
  • Attend, plan and implement all scheduled training sessions, including early mornings, evenings, and weekend. Training days and times will vary.
  • Lead the coordination and supervision of all regattas, camps, and other rowing events.
  • Support strategic planning and budget management for the Rowing programme.
  • Promote participation, excellence, and positive sportsmanship.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, coaches, families, and support groups.
  • Ensure compliance with School policies and external governing bodies
  • Communicate effectively through newsletters, School apps, and parent updates.
  • Maintain accurate records, schedules, and co-curricular data.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture focused on teamwork, resilience, empathy, and personal growth.
About You:
To be considered for this position, we are seeking applicants who have a passion for rowing combined with proven coaching experience and demonstrated experience managing rowing programs. You will also possess the following:
  • Level 2 Rowing Coaching Accreditation preferred.
  • An enthusiastic and inclusive approach to coaching with the ability to motivate participation from differing levels and abilities, and creating a child safe environment.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills along with previous experience managing budgets.
  • Strong communication skills: both written and verbal.
  • A high level of self-awareness and the ability to maintain positive relationships.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, maintaining a balanced perspective when making decisions.
  • Ability to work flexibly under minimal supervision.
  • Level 2 First Aid Qualification (including Anaphylaxis Accreditation).
  • Current Driver and Marine Boat Licences with the ability to tow boats to Regattas (as required).
  • A current National Criminal Record Check and VIT or WWCC.
  • Coaching experience within an educational setting will be highly regarded.
