Toorak College is seeking a Kitchen Hand to join our friendly and dynamic catering department. Working in a supportive school environment, you will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to thrive in your role and grow within the team.

Role & Responsibilities:
Working under the direction of the Catering Manager or Head Chef, the Kitchen Hand will support the catering team in the preparation and servicing for our students (including boarder's) and staff. This role is vital in restocking supplies, cleaning and dishwashing , and helping to ensure smooth and efficient food service across various areas of the school, including our on-site Boarding House. Tasks may include:

  • Assist with kitchen hand duties.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained in the kitchen and serving areas within the school.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment and manage waste disposal.
  • Support the catering team during functions and school events.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and students.
This is a permanent part-time position of approximately three (3) hours per day, starting from 12 noon with some flexibility around exact hours. There is the potential to also work extra hours for events and functions when needed or to cover absences within the team. 

About You:
The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, be customer oriented, organised and will have:
  • Previous experience in a hospitality, catering or commercial kitchen environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, use initiative to achieve results with a customer service focus.
  • Possess a high level of physical fitness sufficient to meet the demands of the role, you will be on your feet consistently.
  • A valid Working with Children Check (Employer), or be willing to obtain prior to employment.
