At Toorak College, our Learning Enhancement team works collaboratively with teachers, students and families to support individual learning needs and ensure every student has the opportunity to engage positively and achieve their potential.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Learning Enhancement Assistant, you will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Learning Enhancement team to support students within the Senior School. The role will focus on providing individual and small-group support, assisting students to engage with classroom learning and working towards the goals outlined in their individual learning plans.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting classroom teachers with the implementation of learning programs and classroom activities.
- Working with individual students and small groups to support engagement, participation and learning outcomes.
- Supporting students to work towards the goals outline in their individual learning plans.
- Assisting students with additional learning needs to access and participate in classroom learning.
- Observing and documenting student progress and development as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Supporting the use of technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Providing student supervision and pastoral support as required.
- Assisting with classroom administration and other learning-related activities.
- Developing positive and supportive relationships with students.
- Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, Year Level Learning teams and the Learning Enhancement team.
- Maintaining professional and confidential communication with students, staff and families.
This is a permanent part-time position (FTE 0.6)
commencing at the start of the 2027 School Year. Experience supporting students with additional learning needs, diverse learning profiles or individual learning plans will be highly regarded.
About You:
You are passionate about supporting young people and enjoy helping students develop confidence, independence and positive approaches to learning. You are patient, approachable and able to build strong and respectful relationships with students while working collaboratively with teachers and the Learning Enhancement team.
You will ideally have:
- An understanding of the diverse learning needs of students and a willingness to adapt support accordingly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect positively with students.
- The ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Learning Enhancement team.
- A calm, patient and flexible approach to supporting student learning.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow direction while also demonstrating initiative.
- Confidence using technology to support student learning.
- A commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Relevant qualifications or experience in education, learning support, teacher assistance, youth work or a related field will be advantageous. Candidates with a genuine passion for supporting young people and relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
