Our Health Services team plays a vital role in supporting the medical and wellbeing needs of our School community. The School Nurse provides professional, compassionate, timely medical support, building positive relationships with students and helping to ensure a safe, supportive and well-managed school environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Working as part of a small and dedicated Health Services team - supported by a part-time First Aid Officer, the School Nurse will lead the delivery of high-quality, student-centred healthcare across the School from the Early Learning Centre through to the Senior School. Reporting directly to the Director of Student Life, this varied role offers the opportunity to work across all age groups in a dynamic and engaging environment.
Your key duties include:
- Act as the first point of contact for student health and wellbeing concerns, delivering professional nursing care, first aid and emergency response within a School environment.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual health care plans in line with best practice and School policies.
- Administer medications and manage chronic conditions including asthma, anaphylaxis and diabetes.
- Liaise with parents, guardians, medical practitioners and emergency services regarding student health matters when required.
- Maintain accurate, confidential medical records, incident reports and health data.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health regulations and keep health-related policies current.
- Promote and support school-based immunisation programs.
- Oversee Health Services operations, including equipment readiness, budget management and safety audits.
- Provide supervision and clinical guidance to the First Aid Officer.
- Deliver staff training in First Aid, student health management and provide medical oversight for excursions and camps.
- Contribute to a safe, supportive and health-focused school environment and uphold safeguarding responsibilities.
You are a registered nurse with experience in child and adolescent care, bringing patience, empathy, and calm in any situation. You build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, promoting health education, and a safe, supportive school environment. Adaptable and observant, you take pride in supporting every student while developing the skills and knowledge of those around you.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience delivering clinical care and first aid, ideally within a school or child-focussed setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build trust with students, staff, parents, and healthcare providers (when required).
- Strong organisational and time management abilities, managing multiple health priorities and responding effectively in emergencies.
- Proficient in maintaining accurate and reliable data, confidential health records and using medical databases and school systems.
- Highly proficient in computer applications and databases, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly and confidently.
- Detail-oriented and committed to high standards of care, safety, and compliance with health regulations and the School’s policies.
- Warm, professional, and approachable, providing reassurance and support across all age groups.
- Ability to train and guide staff in first aid, health management, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Current First Aid in an Education and Care Setting (HLTAID012), Level 2 First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009).
- Have completed a course in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness (10710NAT).
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate (or a willingness to become an Accredited Instructor).
- Specialised training in Diabetes Management.
- Mandatory Reporting Certification.
- Previous Emergency/Critical Care experience.
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116) is desirable.
- Current Working With Children Check (Employee).
